Thank for the compliment. No, I am not an architect. I am a Product Development Manager for a software company. The goal of the organization in Nanton is to allow more people access to the elevators so they can discover and enjoy the buildings and their link to farms and railroads.

I’ve been here for a while enjoying your well written articles and your beautiful photographs.
To preserve these historical buildings is an amazing project. The Nanton Elevators website does not have much details about the next steps of the project. Just curious, are you an architect?

I agree, Houston is much better than Calgary, though when I’m there I often think the locals must have some kind of Canuck envy. They blast their blasted air conditioning co cold that people have to wear sweaters at work.

Anyway, yes, Houston is far better, so everyone please move there. Calgary has become far too crowded and needs to downsize.

Tell us about -50 in the winter when you get there. Cold is violence on my body. At least if we lose electricity, it’s not life-threatening. Speaking of other life-threatening conditions, I can always pack heat legally if I feel the need.

I’m surprised that you would stoop to sarcasm to malign our fair city of Houston. But, since you insist.

* In Houston, we get time off from work (and possibly everything else) when a hurricane comes to visit.
* In Houston, we don’t really have to deal with that whole “seasons thing”. Most of the year is summer, we have a couple of weeks of “winter”, and a handful of days nice enough to be called spring or fall. Calgary probably has a real winter.

Glad you haven’t lost what we’ll choose to call your sense of humor.

For skiing/snowboarding, you will find that Sunshine Village near Banff has better snow and more powder than Louise does. But when snow conditions are good at Louise, after a really big dump, I prefer to go there. The runs and views are better at Lake Louise IMO. But snow is generally better at Sunshine.

In my kitchen, I had to permanently disable the fire alarm! I know that’s not proper and could probably void my insurance policy… but, at this point, the firemen and I are on a first-name basis. You wouldn’t think you could set a kitchen on fire while boiling water ;-)

Thank you guys for those advices. I can see that like me, you are more concerned about the food than you are about the firefighters showing up at my doors. I must say that it does not surprise me.
