Bonjour,

There’s something very comforting about the time it takes to do a proper bœuf bourguignon – speed it up and the result – guaranteed – will not be the same. Quite the contrast to what we normally try to achieve within business and technology developments. (Excellent recipe, by the way, very close to what I prefer. I flambé the cognac, but other than that not much difference. If I make it for my kids, I sometimes sweeten it with blueberries. I’m sure some French chef would bite my neck off if he knew.)

You include two critical points that I did not talk about. Unit tests are basically as important as the rest of the code, and a build is successful only if the tests pass. These are very important, especially when people are just learning to write unit tests because it forces people to ensure that they work all the time. You mention complexity as well, and as we all know, coding is hard. Unit testing is hard as well and it is also hard to make your code testable.

Those were really useful suggestions for before/after the stand-up. I don’t often see such clear information about handling the results of the daily stand-up. Most of what I’ve seen just assumes you will know what to do.

Thank for the compliment. No, I am not an architect. I am a Product Development Manager for a software company. The goal of the organization in Nanton is to allow more people access to the elevators so they can discover and enjoy the buildings and their link to farms and railroads.

I’ve been here for a while enjoying your well written articles and your beautiful photographs.
To preserve these historical buildings is an amazing project. The Nanton Elevators website does not have much details about the next steps of the project. Just curious, are you an architect?

Ha! Ha! Do you want to know how we prepare for snow in Houston?
We do some wishful thinking while working on a tan by the pool then we go to the mall to see fake snow by the “Take a Picture with Santa” booth.

For skiing/snowboarding, you will find that Sunshine Village near Banff has better snow and more powder than Louise does. But when snow conditions are good at Louise, after a really big dump, I prefer to go there. The runs and views are better at Lake Louise IMO. But snow is generally better at Sunshine.
